Christofle Pair of Candlesticks from the 19th century - Pearls - France, 1870-1899

An elegant pair of antique silver-plated candlesticks by the celebrated French silversmith Christofle, dating to the second half of the nineteenth century. Their refined design is distinguished by delicate pearl borders that frame the silhouette.

A Christofle catalogue from 1862 illustrates an almost identical model.

One of their most charming characteristics is the beautiful contrast that has developed over time. As the raised pearl motifs sit slightly higher than the surrounding silver-plated surfaces, decades of diligent polishing have created a subtle interplay between bright silver tones and warm golden highlights, enhancing the depth and character of the decoration.
