Christofle - Marly - Antique Dinner Cutlery Canteen - 24-piece/12-pax. - 1890-1935
An antique dinner cutlery canteen for twelve guests, manufactured at the Charles Christofle/Christofle et Cie. factory in Paris between 1890 and 1935. The inside of the canteen is beautifully inlaid with red felt and features the Christofle logo on the lid. Brass hardware.
The cutlery pattern– Marly – is a reference to the Château Marly-de-Roi, built under Louis XIV and demolished in 1806. The pieces are finely decorated with a pattern of Rococo scrolls, acanthus leaves, and tendrils. This has been one of Christofle's most popular models for over 100 years, and for good reason: it is one of the finest examples of the Rococo style found on cutlery. It strikes a balance between the style's inherent exuberance without becoming excessive.
Consisting of:
- 12 dinner spoons (22cm)
- 12 dinner forks (22cm)
The cutlery is in excellent condition for its age, with light scratches from historical use. The case shows some wear on the outside (please view the last photo for this), and the clasps no longer close perfectly.
All pieces are marked with [C-Balance-C] for Charles Christofle/Christofle et Cie. and [CHRISTOFLE]. These hallmarks were in use between 1890 and 1935.
