Antique French Brass Inkwell Set – Second Empire Style Desk Set – Inkstand with Porcelain Pots – c.1870–1890
An elegant antique French brass inkwell set, dating from the Second Empire period (circa 1870–1890).
This finely cast desk set combines multiple functions, including inkwells, a pen tray, and a letter holder, making it both decorative and practical. The design reflects the richly eclectic style of the late 19th century, featuring arabesques, bows, baluster vases, and acanthus leaves.
A particularly striking detail is the central ornament: a flower-filled vase flanked by two eagle heads, prominently positioned on the pen tray, adding a sculptural and symbolic element to the composition.
The set retains its two original porcelain inkwell inserts, which fit neatly into their holders.
Condition
In good condition. One of the porcelain inserts has a small chip to the rim, which does not affect its function.
