Pair of Gilt Bronze Rococo Andirons - mid-19th century
€ 175,00
(including VAT)
Fine pair of antique cast and gilded bronze andirons (fire dogs), crafted during the Rococo Revival period of the mid-19th century. These firedogs were inspired by 18th-century mercury-gilded examples and feature richly decorative Rococo styling.
Andirons were used in open fireplaces to support logs above the hearth floor, allowing air to circulate underneath the wood for a more efficient burn. The log supports themselves are made of iron, while the decorative fronts are executed in gilded bronze.
Likely French, iron supports, cast gilt bronze chenets with partly faded gilding - mid-19th century.
